How to leave a gift in your will

If you are making your will, after you have considered everyone you care about, you can leave a charitable gift to Cardiomyopathy UK as either a percentage of your estate or as a fixed sum gift. Whatever the size of the gift you plan to leave, you'll be making a real difference to future generations with cardiomyopathy.

The different types of gift you could leave

There are three main ways you can include a gift to Cardiomyopathy UK in your will and help our vital work for people with heart muscle disease.

However you choose to help, we’d be grateful for whatever type of gift you decide to leave us.

1. A share of your estate

Once you’ve provided for your loved ones, you can leave a share of whatever remains to Cardiomyopathy UK. It can be any percentage you like and because this gift is a proportion of your estate, it keeps pace with inflation. For example, you could leave 10% or 1 fifth of you total wealth which is known as a residuary gift.

2. Fixed sum of money

You might prefer to leave a fixed sum, known as a pecuniary gift, which is a gift of a specific amount of money. If you do decide to leave this type of gift, it’s worth reviewing from time to time as inflation can reduce its value.

3. Gift of a specific item

You can also choose to leave something of value to Cardiomyopathy UK known as a specific gift, such as a piece of jewellery, an antique, some shares or even a property. A gift like this should be named in your Will.

Amending your will - You can amend your existing will using a codicil. A codicil is a supplement to a will, containing an addition, explanation or modification of something in the will. You can download a codicil form or we can send one to you.
